My dear friend Rita Zeinstejer sent out a message to the Webheads in Action list two days ago in which this YouTube video was referred. It’s extremely touching and meaningful, and a genuine and stimulating call to young people starting a new phase in their lives to “Stay hungry, Stay foolish!”. Stay hungry for knowledge and for living life to its fullest. And… stay foolish and adventurous, always with the part of the child in you active and surfacing at all times.
Listen to it. It’s worth every minute.

Morning, Moira!
Here’s a screenshot of your blog taken with MWSnap3 and then resized with Easy Thumbnails.
I find that the smaller the font, the more blurred it gets.

This is a very special post for me, because it is about a “tribute” that my dear friend and colleague, Cristina Costa (at the time – May 2006 - an Ensign and English teacher in the Portuguese Navy), and her students prepared a very comprehensive project about my father, retired Admiral Vicente Almeida d’Eça, on the 70th Anniversary of his joining the Portuguese Navy.
I am very impressed by all that Cristina was able to get her students to do in a very interested, involved and committed way, and create herself. And I was very moved when on Friday, 5 Jan. 2007, Cristina had the chance to get together with my father at my house, present him with a CD-ROM containing everything that is online about him, and show him the project online, including the first entry about a Portuguese Navy officer in Wikipedia.
This post includes links to all the Web pages and podcasts, the informal recording at my house, and linkable thumbnails to photos that were taken. I’d like to add that this was an international event, because before Cristina arrived, my parents chatted for about half an hour with Dafne in Caracas, Venezuela, and Hala and her children, Haneen and Omer, in Khartoum, Sudan. This was my parents’ debut at chatting online. My father is 88 and my mother is 81, so… it’s never too late to start! :-)
Cristina, “thank you!” for the incredible and very sensitive idea you had and for giving my father one of the best gifts in his life, as he commented during the tribute. And please thank your students on behalf of my father and myself. My “thank you” also goes to my friend, Ramona Dietrich, and her students at that time for collaborating on this project.

There’s nothing like exploring hands-on to really learn by doing.
I looked around in my notes and found out that I had opened a blog here in January, so I decided to come in and explore. So far I’ve changed my password and the layout.
